All throughout October the Thurmont Lions Club is sponsoring a drive to collect new or gently used blankets and pillows for use in cold weather shelters throughout our community. To make a donation drop your blankets and pillows off at Hobbs Hardware in Thurmont during regular business hours.

Tuesday 10/20 The Clothes Closet at Thurmont United Methodist Church reopens once again from 10-11:30 a.m. with free clothing for men, women & children and now collecting new/gently used toys for their Dec. 7 Christmas Party

Wednesday 10/21 The Thurmont Lions Club hosts the District 8 Democratic and Republican Candidate’s debate for the House of Representatives in Maryland. This is a live streamed event only available on cable Channel 99 and on The Thurmont Lions Club Facebook page. The event begins at 6:45 p.m.

Saturday 10/24 There will be an Open House at the Old Field Woodworking shop on Graceham Road in Thurmont from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information, call 240-285-6561.

Saturday 10/24 Checkout the Country Ham, Turkey & Oyster Dinner at the Lewistown Vol. Fire Dept. from Noon-5 p.m. The cost is $20/adult; $10/ages 6-10 and carryouts are $21.

Saturday 10/24 You are invited to the Fall Festival at Lewistown United Methodist Church from 2-4 p.m. with games, crafts, a campfire & story time, trunk or treats, costume & trunk judging, prizes & more.

Sunday 10/25 Enjoy a Civil War Style Church Service at the historic Rocky Springs Chapel from 1 to 2:30pm This nondenominational service is conducted by Chaplain Edward “Scott” Sturdivant, with the 8th Virginia Infantry and of Longstreet’s Corps (a nonprofit Civil War living history organization) and member of the nonprofit organization Reenactor’s Missions for Jesus Christ (RMJC).
